Hey readers!
Thank you for reading all the posts till now!
In this post, I’ll be shedding some light on climate change.
WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?
Climate change refers to changes in the Earth's climate due to change in the average temperature of the Earth or a shift in raining and snowing patterns.
There are numerous factors that influence Earth's climate change. Scientists agree that human activity has caused the Earth to warm over the last 50 to 100 years. Certain gases in the Earth's atmosphere prevent heat from escaping. This is known as the greenhouse effect.
Burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal is the primary cause of climate change. When fossil fuels are burned, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere, changing the natural greenhouse effect. Because of these changes, the atmosphere now holds more heat than it used to, resulting in a warmer Earth. The environmental effects of global climate change are already visible. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes has broken up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted, landslides, desertification, flooding are becoming frequent accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves which are happening now.
In the first week of July, tens of millions of people in India suffered from a severe heatwave that has pushed the temperature to a nine-year high in New Delhi, as monsoon rains fall behind schedule. Climate change is making them harsher and more frequent.
At the same time, in Canada, nearly 500 people have died due to record-breaking temperatures. Climate change has also played a role in the excessive heat and its heat dome.
To tackle climate, change the temperature has to remain below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Now, the question arises-
Why is it critical to remain below 1.5 degrees Celsius?
Because Small changes in temperature correspond to massive changes in the environment. Because even at one degree, people are dying as a result of the climate crisis. Because that is what the United Science calls for in order to avoid destabilizing the climates. So that we have the best possible chance of avoiding irreversible chain reactions.
The richer countries must do their fair share to achieve zero emissions much faster, and then assist poorer countries do the same, so that people in less fortunate parts of the world can improve their living standards. What we need are drastic emission cuts at the source. Our greenhouse gas emissions must come to a halt with massive scaling up of restoration of land. To keep temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
And together we can achieve this. We do not have to wait. We can start contributing right now.
THANK YOU!!!
Very informative! Loved this post.
