ETERNALS: A REVIEW

Now this post here, is-as the title suggests- about my newfound favorite film, ETERNALS by Marvel studios. (Hey marvel fans!)

This movie premiered on 5th November 2021 and has gained tremendous popularity ever since. Although, the audience reviews aren’t very encouraging, I absolutely recommend watching this like any other captivating Marvel film.

This superhero movie is based on the Marvel Comics race of the same name. The Jack Kirby comic, first published in 1976, introduces three different groups created by celestial Gods: the Deviants (a group that was constantly at war), humans, and the immortal Eternals, of which there are more than 30. The group has gone through several iterations over the years. It is the twenty-sixth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the seventh installment of Phase Four. The film is directed and co-written by Chloé Zhao.

SYNOPSIS

"We're Eternals. We came here from Olympia seven thousand years ago, to protect humans from the Deviants."

Marvel Studios' Eternals introduces a vibrant new squad of Marvel Cinematic Universe Super Heroes, the primitive aliens who have been surviving on Earth undercover for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unprecedented horror forces them to emerge from the shadows to fight humanity's most ancient demons, the Deviants.

They are commanded and led by Ajak, who acts on the orders of their supreme leader and creator, Arishem. They are also restricted from interfering in the lives of human beings in order for them to progress intrinsically.

CHARACTERS-

1. Ajak- In the film, Ajak is portrayed as a motherly figure who is adored and revered by the entire group.  She possesses the ability to heal and communicate with the Celestials who guard the universe. Her role is played by Salma Hayek.

2. Ikaris- He is portrayed as the group's most powerful eternal. He can fly and shoot laser beams from his eyes. He allegedly flew "too close" to the sun. His role is played by Richard Madden. (He also featured in GOT. Remember?)

3. Sersi- She loves humans. She possesses the ability to manipulate matter. For example, she can turn anything into matter by just a simple touch. Her role is played by Gemma Chan.

4. Thena- Thena was born in Olympia and is the daughter of Zuras. In the film, Thena is one of the strongest warriors in the group, able to use cosmic energy to create weapons to fight with. Her role is played by none other than Angelina Jolie.(YAY!)

5. Gilgamesh- He is yet  one of the kindest and strongest eternals. He is also a great cook with all that muscle power. His role is played by Don Lee.

6. Kingo- In the movie, apart from being an eternal, he becomes a well-known Bollywood actor. Kingo decided so because he couldn't tell the world that he's a superhero. He can fire energy bombardments from his fingers when fighting together with Eternals. He's the group's coolest member. His role is played by Kumail Nanjiani.

(In fact, there are a lot of Indian references in this movie.)

7. Makkari- Makkari is "the fastest woman in the universe”. Her role is played by Lauren Ridloff who is, in reality, deaf. Her super speed makes her a vital member of the Eternals.

8. Druig- In the film, he has the ability to control the minds of others. He is irritated that he is not permitted to intervene in and easily resolve human conflict. His role is played by Barry Keoghan.

9. Phastos- In the movie, he is portrayed as a “master inventor”. He creates technology to help humans advance (sometimes harm also). His role is played by Brian Tyree Henry.

10. Sprite- Sprite can change her appearance, recreate herself, and make herself and others invisible, and create illusions in the film. She wishes for a more normal life because she is perpetually trapped in the body of a teen and is treated as such. Her role is played by Lia McHugh.

These are the awesome characters of Eternals. This movie also has 2 post credit scenes.
